ROUND 6  REVIEW  - 13th BEACH, UNLUCKY FOR SOME
This year saw us return to the Bellarine Peninsula & Surf Coast for the first time since 1997/98 when we tackled Queenscliffe GC on Swan Island and Lonsdale GC. However, this time we were playing a couple of beauties in 13th Beach for the final round on the Saturday and Barwon Heads GC on the Sunday in a new 4 ball-best ball teams format that replaced the traditional Ambrose event.

The weather was hot & sticky and about 30deg. for the final round at 13th Beach where all players seemed to get off the first tee fairly well with the exception of the leader Quinny who shanked his barely passed the ladies tee then proceeded to scramble up the first fairway... |

ROUND 5  REVIEW  - AND THEN THERE WERE FOUR
Near perfect conditions saw only a field of eight for this penultimate round of 2005 / 2006 when unfortunately Mike, Gooey, Scoot & Henry were unable to attend. Standing on the first tee Murph, Glenn & Quinny new what had to be done to take advantage and overhall Mike 'The Leader' Hall. But it was still all before them as only Glenn was able to hold it together and square the first hole. After six holes Murph had recovered to be all square while Glenn 2 down and Quinny 4 down were staring at possible disaster.....|Full Details|

Track Lover:
Gooey with 4 wins, 2 seconds and 3 thirds from 18 starts lays claim to the track lover but will need to improve on recent performances. Quinny is not far behind also with 4 wins from 18 and last years winner Beano is the big mover with 2 wins from his only 7 outings here (which also includes 3 lasts placings).

Worst on Track:
No it's not Kenny! Jimmy the Grif is still a Flinders maiden and can only boast 4 placings from his 16 starts to date. While Scoot has two lasts from his only 3 starts on the track.

History Suggests:
Usually at least half the field score better than par. However, last year only 3 were in the positive in the 'par' format.

The Roughie:
The Bean is well weighted off 31.8 to go back to back and looked like he was returning to some form at Patto. Will be fitter this time! Jimmy off 25 can't be ignored either.

The Verdict:
I'm going to stick my neck out and tip the angry one... Fusspot coming off 23.3 if he can brush aside the odd bad hole and keep his concentration he is overdue for a win. Glenn & Quinny are consistent Flinders performers and should also be included in the multiples. While Mike 'The Leader' Hall will be looking to maintain his dominance and is in impeccable form.

ROUND 4  REVIEW  - STORMY PROCEEDINGS AT PATTO
Very hot & windy conditions greeted our heroes at the "Dewers Stableford Classic" at Patterson River Country Club but there was worse to come as the change approached. The inevitable thunder storm struck a severe blow on the back nine when we were forced to take refuge from the electric atmosphere with only 3 to four holes left to play. Two groups took shelter on the course ( it was a long way back to the clubhouse) while the middle group completely through in the towel and ran for their lives (or so they would tell us) and sought the comfort of the clubhouse and subsequently called it a day with the general opinion that any further play would be too dangerous (their sexuality was subsequently placed into question).....

Track Lover:
Not enough play here to recognise a true track lover, apart from previous wins from Westy & Fusspot both of whom have not been consistent in either round. The home track of Murph who has probably the most consistent record to date with a 2nd & 4th place.

Worst on Track:
Probably Kenny at this early stage with a last & 2nd last finish to date.

History Suggests:
Par score of 36 points will just about get the money if not a worthy placing. A score in the low 30's may be good enough for a top six finish.

The Roughie:
The pressure will be on Michael 'stableford' Hall to maintain his lead - he crashed badly here last year but is much better this campaign.

The Verdict:
Look for Glenn & Jimmy to put in big finishes after finding some late form at Amstel. With Murph as the main danger.

The Winning Team:
This years teams are: PW/MH/MO/SS; RW/SL/JG/KB; DM/GM/IQ/AS
Team No. 1: Has the current leader and previuos Patto winners Henry & Fusspot - but the latter is throwing his clubs further than he can hit the ball and then there is the Scoot factor and he has to play the dreaded 12th.
Team No. 2: Well team 2 have Kenny so I'm ruling a line thru them!
Team No. 3: Are the obvious choice and favourites for this years classic (goody another bottle of scotch??)

ROUND 3  REVIEW  - STORMY RETURN TO AMSTEL
Thunder, lightening, tempest & flying rescue clubs (perhaps that should read "temper") greeted us for our first game at Amstel since 92/93 as Michael "Amstel" Hall consolidated his lead with a respectable one over par round. Amstel lived up to it's previous reputation where only Henry & Jimmy were able to match or better par. Gooey was on target to better his all time worst round of 125 (nett 100) which he picked up on this very track 12 years ago.....

STROKE

Jimmy
on the way to Victory Yarrawonga 2003

|View Course Stats|
Track Lover:
The Massey has visited this track only twice in it's history. In 1990/91 former player Chris "Crunny" Richardson scored with a modest nett 71 with Westy 72 and Jimmy 74 not far behind. Jimmy was the most 'recent' winner under stableford conditions with 35 points with Crunny and Glenn only one point away. This would make Crunny the Track Lover, however in his absence Jimmy has the next best record with a win and a third from the two starts so far!

Worst on Track:
Gooey and Quinny have recorded the only two last finishes here. Although Kenny and Bean have consistently been in the bottom three.

History Suggests:
It's been 13 years since we were last here but it seems that most of us struggle to register par scores.

The Roughie:
Murph's got to be fucked attempting to win off an all time low handicap of 10 but he has declared himself. Schimma will be desperate for a good showing but coming off 7 will be difficult.

The Verdict:
Now playing off 25 and showing some glimpses of form at Carrington Park - Jimmy is the favourite pick. While Mike & Glenn are in good form but have had their handicaps shaved a tad. Don't leave Henry out of your multiples coming back from a spell.

ROUND 2 REVIEW  - SEVEN BEAT PAR AS MIKE & MURPH SIZZLE
The weather set the scene for some low scoring as seven players beat par and Mike & Murph sizzled with net 61's to head the Massey table. Murph hit a personal best 76 off the stick which would have been a new course record if not for Schimma's 75 (nett 66) which was only good enough to give Ray 5th place for the round. ....  |Full Details|

Track Lover:
Westy is the obvious track lover with 3 wins, 4 seconds and a third from 14 starts here.  This is the same man that has sacked Trafalgar from the tour (home of another Massey low handicapper!) and has already booked this course for next year - any wonder he puts his hand up to make the bookings!!! Next best at the track is Jimmy with 2 wins , six seconds & a third from 13 outings. Jimmy also holds course records here for both Stableford & Par formats.

Worst on Track:
Believe it or not the usually consistent Glenn Martin has posted 4 lasts and only two placings from his 15 starts at the track.

History Suggests:
Usually the top 4 to 6 home post sub par scores at Carrington with the winner likely to require low to mid 60's.

The Roughie:
Scoot, Beano or Kenny would be as surprised as any of us if they were to get up... but they have the handicaps - now they only need the form. The way Fusspot played last round would also suggest he's also in the roughie category but don't rule him out.

The Verdict:
Michael 'stableford' Hall is great chance to win again while still off 27 but it's not stableford is it!! Gooey was close last time and Jimmy was almost there at Devil Bend as well.... so they will be looking for good 2nd up performances.

ROUND 1  REVIEW - THE RETURN OF MICHAEL 'STABLEFORD' HALL
The weather was not kind as rain squall after rain squall gave us a bit of a soaking at times throughout play and the fairways held some casual water. The Devil Bend course coped fairly well in the inclement conditions but alas, some of our Massey hero's didn't fair so well, as only one single man was able to match par ....  |Full Details|

Track Lover:
Glenn has outstanding form with seven placings (3 wins) from his 12 starts including a course record net 60 from a record 81 strokes in 94/95.  Three scores in the top 10 at the track and second in the only stableford event here just five seasons ago. Not far behind is Quinny who also boasts 7 placings from his 11 starts at the track.

Worst on Track:
Kenny has recorded 4 lasts here but also boasts 3 placings from his 11 starts, while "The Bean" has 3 lasts from 10 (inc. 2 wins!).

History Suggests:
While there has been plenty of sub par scores here - recent history suggests that a par score of 36 points may get you in the top four. But there might be some bandits out there who may blitz the course this year.

The Roughie:
The man formerly known as Michael "stableford" Hall could live up to his old self claimed nickname and cause an upset playing off 27.

The Verdict:
If Quinny can shake off his poor Tasmanian form his 30 handicap should be enough. Throw in Glenn and Jimmy for the trifecta and I reckon you'll find a winner amongst this lot.
