(Westy, Murph & Jimmy are finding alternative routes because chaps ...there's nothing like an alternative route! Ed.)

Three of the top four courses in Tassie. Couldn't get on Claremont Sunday, which may work out better anyway, as we can have the MPU dinner Saturday night, and rest and recover Sunday. Tthere is a fair chance the Elwick meeting will be held on Sunday anyway. If not, a trip around the wineries and oysters farms sound good, or what about a quiet flutter at Wrest Point......... (Mark West may also be organizing a chartered fishing trip if any interest! Ed.)

There's a good chance I will be able to get the some or all of the green fees and post game drinks sponsored, which could release some kitty money for a nice presentation dinner - maybe in the casino's revolving restaurant, or Mure's at Constitution dock etc.

My mate has also organised a whip around the Hobart office to pay for quick pants down in Struttie's garden shed with Tassie's own Princess Mary Donaldson.......

Whatever we do, we'll have lots of fun, that's a moral.

Jimmy the Grif

(Great job boys.... your getting me excited Jimmy....can't wait to see "Princess Mary" with something else in her mouth rather than that silver spoon!!! Ed.)

ROUND FOUR  12 Feb 2005 - THE BEAN STRIKES BACK
The grand old lady of the Massey hit back today and has truly stood the test of time, as the south westerly winds made golf very difficult on an otherwise sunny afternoon. But one man came out to play after a solid session warming up in the Flinders Pub ....  |Full Details|

PAR

Glenn
1st Tee Lakes Course Yarrawonga 2003 / 2004

|View Course Stats
Track Lover:
Gooey has nine placings (4 wins) from 17 starts including 3 wins in his previous 5 hit outs at the venue and will probably keep the best ever nett of 53 scored here in 90/91. Add to this already impressive record - the fact that he has 4 scores in the top 10 at the track and 0 in the worst ten. Not far behind is Quinny who also boasts 4 wins at one of his favourite tracks.

Worst on Track:
Most starters have recorded at least a placing here. However, Scoot, Fusspot & Jimmy are still yet to record a victory on this tight little beaut.

History Suggests:
At least half the field usually betters par and recent outings here using the Par scoring system has shown that +5 or better may be required for victory.

The Roughie:
Glenn looks like he is coming into a bit form for the second half of the year. After being floated from Echuca to Patto last month he showed enough to suggest that he is ready to strike and is better in the weights as well with 20.

The Verdict:
Henry shot a course record off the stick here last season (75) and four years ago also set a record of +8 in the Par format which is still unbeaten. Has a 1st & a second from only two starts this time in and will take some beating. Will need to reproduce this form off a seven handicap to win.

ROUND THREE  21 Jan 2005 - JOHNNIE WALKER CLASSIC
A full compliment came out to play on this warm & sunny Friday afternoon to test their skills at the fully revamped Patto River. Glenn was even dropped off on the way home from Echuca as there was more than just Massey points at stake,  for this is the Johnnie Walker Classic - and it is even moving into new sponsorship. The added challenge of this prestigious team event, now in it's third year produces the sought of desperation never quite seen before on the playing fields of the Massey.....  |Full Details|

ROUND TWO  21 Nov 2004 - BONUS POINTS!
With Henry, Murph, Scoot & Mike "Stableford" Hall missing from this round it was a chance for some easy points today. Just ask Jimmy and Schimma who both thought they had ordinary days but were pleasantly surprised.....  |Full Details|

Murph
1st Tee Lakes  Course Yarrawonga 2003 / 2004

|View Course Stats
Track Lover:
Murph has never been unplaced at the venue with 6 placings from six outings including equal Massey course record of 83 strokes in 02-03. Traf is also the home of Schimma who impressed during his Massey debut last month.  If he comes out on top here the Handicapper may well have his balls on the line!!

Worst on Track:
No problems finding this stat. Kenny has trialed here on 9 occasions and yes.... he is 0 from 9 for a place. When you also throw in the 5 lasts on course, together with his most recent outing this preparation - then it is a cert that you will get better value trying to find the winner!

History Suggests:
Looking over the more recent seasons shows that you will probably get the points with a par round. I'm tipping 2 under will be safe with only the one or two recording sub par rounds.

The Roughie:
Fair Dinkum! If Scoot gets a new putter he will be a real chance to record his maiden round victory. Gooey, Fusspot and Henry all ran on well and have strong place claims.

The Verdict:
Hard to go past Murph who has a three shot advantage on his real handicap and the track form. A limited preparation this campaign casts some doubt.

ROUND ONE  17 Oct 2004 - JIMMY "TEES OFF" AND WINS "EEEASING UP"
Jimmy's first tee shot in the 20th Massey was an absolute cracker and he never looked back from there, carding a magnificent 22 points on the longer front nine. Then it appeared as though he threw out an anchor big enough to pull up the Queen Mary ...  |Full Details|

STABLEFORD

"The Bean" - it's time to strike!
1st Tee Murray Course Yarrawonga 2003 / 2004

|View Course Stats
Track Lover:
Stabled here at Carrington Park it is no surprise to see that Westy has three wins, three seconds and a third from thirteen previous starts. This includes a best ever net of 54 when off 32.4 way back in his debut season of 87-88 and the Massey course record 78 off the stick in 97-98. Don't discard Jimmy either with 8 placings from 12 starts.

Worst on Track:
It has to be Glenn with only two placings from fourteen visits and four lasts is not very flattering. Who can forget his nett 103 off 32.0 in the inaugural Massey round of 1985. Still last after Kenny had 27 shots from the greenside bunker on the 17th to rattle home with a net 102!!!

History Suggests:
Never had a stableford round here before, however the last two "Par" games have seen just over half the field finishing in the positive! Does this suggest that 36 points will only finish in the middle of the pack?

The Roughie:
Has the Handicapper given the new kid on the block enough?... word around the traps is he is putting in a bit of a pre-season. Go Schimma!

The Verdict:
It's the Bean for mine! Pipped at the post here last year and equal third before that. Track form shows seven placings from eleven outings and lightly weighted... it's time to strike!

RAY "SCHIMMA" WISEMAN - The Golfer, The Man, The Myth, The Legend....                            14 Sept 2004
It gives me great pleasure to announce that with the support of an overwhelming majority of Massey voters, Ray Wiseman has accepted terms to be the latest addition to the Massey brethren. He brings with him a wealth of social golf tour experience, extensive knowledge of exotic punting and an unrivalled ability to devour the odd "Truckies Special" or two in a single session at the Kalkallo. This is the same man who when not feeling very well on a weekend in Yarrawonga a few years back.. visited a doctor who informed him he'd suffered a "mild" heart attack and advised him to check straight into the Hospital for further observation... "Schimma" casually took this advice and calmly scoffed down a couple of bacon & egg sandwiches for an extra fix of cholesterol from a local eatery before setting off to the hospital.... An outstanding effort in the true tradition of Massey folklore! (John Daly, eat your heart out... boom boom!)

When I visited him in his little outpost office in the maintenance yard at South East Water recently, he had already printed out several important pages from the Massey Web Site and has already added value by promising a hefty discount from the green fees at Traf.... very impressive indeed!!

Ray now has our flight itinerary and was last seen madly surfing the VirginBlue site to secure his tickets to Tassie on the same flights as the rest of us.  His current handicap is 10.4 and believes he will be off 11 by the time the Massey season begins next month. He has already skillfully negotiated a starting Massey handicap of 9 subject to the approval of the Massey steering committee at it's next sitting at the Baxter Tavern on the Friday night prior to the first round.

"It is with great excitement that I accept your generous offer."  Ray said. "Since that infamous Massey weekend many years ago in Yarrawonga, that I shared with Brothers Bean and McCabe, I have always had delusions of being a Beaver and Massey man. For it to finally happen on your 20th anniversary is even more special. The only reservation I have is that the itinerary does not include any Murray River golf courses, hence no Kalkallo! How can I be expected to perform as a finely tuned golfer, without sharing the Truckies Special with Brother Bean and the customary 10 pots to wash it down!!!                                                                                                                "P.S. Virgin Blue bookings finalized...."

Ray fills the sudden vacancy left by Gian and it is at this time that we thank Gian for his contribution over a number of years, in which he unfortunately, through his work and other family commitments, could not attend as often as he would have liked.

FINAL ROUND  28 Feb 2004 YARRAWONGA
DEAR OH DEAR! "Overnight" leader Michael Hall tees off on the first tee at Yarrawonga taking with him a 5.5 point lead... but things didn't quite turn out the way he would have liked.... |Full Details|
