FINAL ROUND  28 Feb 2004 YARRAWONGA
DEAR OH DEAR!

CHAMPIONS, CHOKERS & WANKERS
Well here we are again on the verge of another venture up the Hume to Gods country and yet another "Massey "title is up for grabs.

Lets look at some contenders and pretenders.............

Mike Hall - looked the goods at Patto River with immaculate shirt, slacks, and polished golf shoes. He looked like a champion, and he has played like a champion all year and deserves his lead. Rumour has it he left Nissan to go to Holden in an effort to overcome his lack of self belief?? After attending many Holden induction seminars it seems he now recites the Holden HSV catch cry over and over in his sleep "I JUST WANT ONE" "I JUST WANT ONE", and it seems to be relating to what he really wants - A Massey trophy and a photo with Fluffy the illusive rabbit!

Quinny - that little dour quiet achiever who just seems to sneak up on you like an ugly fat bitch at the end of a big night on the piss at the local pub. As one ex Massey champion often says "Fuckin Quinny - he can't hit the ball far enough to get in any trouble. Always 80 yards straight up the middle." I like the way Quinny is going about his business - and let's remember how focused he was on the 1st tee at Cape Schanck? When he had it all to do a couple of years back. Don't underestimate this little prick!!!

Goooooeeey - has an amazingly simple swing that delivers excellent results. Always seems to get it up the middle (on the golf course anyway) and never seems to find much trouble. Seems like he's taking himself seriously now - after looking at how he looked and dressed in the old Massey videos he had to be fuckin joking didn't he???. Watch out Yarrawonga - Gooeys a big chance.....

Me... I mean Fusspots -Yeh, I can already hear it Murph "choker, cant win. Will not get it off the tee...no chance...." well what can I say other than your probably right - but how does Get Fucked sound!!! We'll go to Yarrawonga, have a good night Friday night, put the ball on the tee and SEE WHAT HAPPENS.......

Murph (aka the wanker) - what a shame he's OUT OUT OUT of contention. Like a fuckin Collingwood player looking back at what could have been. So near and yet so far - what's really sad and eating away at him in that confused head of his is that he thought he was a "MONTY" to bring home the points at his own course with a very favourable handicap. His excuse - I'm working more now and have less time for golf. Well booh fucking hoo to you - the rest of us are SOCIAL occasional golfers who say - welcome to our world and welcome back to the field arsewipe!!!!

Westy - what can be said about the little housebound fat bloke that hasn't already been said. A regular contender, a former champion on many occasions, and yet like the wanker from the "River" course, out of contention this year. His excuse - yes, hasn't been able to play as much due to work commitments - there's more dishes in the sink this year, and since he went to an after hours "ENYO" party and bought all 10 of their fucking magic cleaning cloths, he just can't stop enjoying the ENYO experience. Good for you Westy. Gone in 2004 but he will be back to challenge again.

Glenn - what can we say about a bloke who seems to have a near perfect golf swing when he's on song. We cant make sense of the fact that Glenny has really struggled for consistency this season and seems to be a bit lost. Seems the perfect remedy could be what all good golfers do - get out the old tapes and look back at what you used to do - take a minute to review those Massey classics with the long flowing hair and long white socks. Maybe that's it - maybe your still recovering from that ill fated night when you had too much to drink and those bastard friends of yours kept tempting you with the oysters - only to see you chuck your heart out all over Yarrawonga!!!

Beano - always seems to give an honest account of himself but seems hampered by injury. Those blasted feet seem to knock him around severely and impact on his game. Shows flashes of brilliance at times, and yet at other times looks half the man he can be!!!! Wait a minute...he is half the man he can be......Must have cost a fortune in new clothes and therefore less money spare for golf practice. Maybe that's it!!! But he does look great now!!!

Jimmy the Griff - what an enigma this man is.....on his day can take us all apart...and yet on other days can't keep his head out of pretty wedding brides titties....and then other days get so pissed that he doesn't even know what golf day it is...and he has to move gingerly around the house and learn how to walk on eggshells again.....a previous champion, a potential champ again....looking to get stuck into us "fucking weak margarine spreaders " again in 2004/05.

Scoot - seems to be enjoying his golf more now that his handicap has been adjusted more fairly...has been cheated out of the points for a long time, and now seems to be much more threatening. When he gets that ice pick putter going he can run hot...and when he doesn't you shit yourself that he may blow a fuse and throw it through your fuckin heart!! Don't get on the wrong side of our Scoot - his driver had been shitting him lately, and on the 1st tee at Patto River he "gave it a pounding" and smashed the fucking thing!!" That'll fix that bastard" he said....

Kenny - what can we say about our Kenny. Victimized by some members of the group accusing him of slow play......this pugnacious little left hander seems to have his best days behind him at the minute....and yet when we think back to some of the shots he's pulled off over the years anything is possible for Kenny "the barrell" Baxter. Seems the only thing Kennys' been pulling of this season is his "TOSS". Come on Kenny, get it together before its too late son!!!

Gian - not much can be said about Gianny- work commitments inhibit his presence a lot of the time.... but he always seems to have fun at Yarrawonga.... one wonders what points he could accrue with more regular rounds......

Well that's it lads...see you all at YARRAWONGA, and may the best Massey contender or pretender win!!!!!

THE TRADITION CONTINUES - BAXTER TAVERN @ 8.00PM THURSDAY 26 FEB 2004
Join in the fellowship at the traditional "Yarrawonga Eve" at the Baxter Tavern.
Make your final travel arrangements. Drop some well earned on the trots or the dogs. Throw some last minute sledges and make bold statements of how well your going to play....
With all liabilities called in, at Yarrawonga we should have a surplus of about $280, which will be used for prizemoney. It has been suggested the kitty pays prizemoney for Saturday’s best net scores eg: $80 for 1st, $40 for 2nd, and $20 for 3rd,  and say $35 for each member of the winning ambrose team on Sunday. If we need to go to a vote on some different options we can. Jimmy has booked the Chinese restaurant for 7.30pm Saturday night…..watch out lovely Maree the boys are back! ……..Whoooooaaa!!!….

The Massey:

With two wins and unplaced only once in five outings plus the track records for best net & strokes makes Gooey the "Lakes" specialist.
Mike, also has one win from two appearances.

The stats don't lie - Quinny has never threatened to place in his five visits.

Nobody bettered par last year when Jimmy's net 75 took the points - must have been that card game? However, mid to low 60's are generally required for maximum points - par may only be good enough for six or seven. Key factors are temperature, tee time & size of hangover.

If any of the high handicappers have a round in the mid 90's they could easily take the points. Kenny has had a win and two 2nds here in the past - remember "the shot that won the Massey"!

Hard to go past current form players in Mark, Gooey & Mike but they may need to shoot mid 80's and their handicap's have tightened. But it's Jimmy the Griff for me.

It will take an almighty choke for him to lose from here! Not seen since 1990 - 1991 when  Westy surrendered a 7.5 point margin to the rampaging Jimmy "the 2 iron" Griffiths.
Michael "The Massey" Hall is playing too well to let that happen or is he???

ROUND FIVE  30 Jan 2004 - FIELD SPREADS AS "MASSEY" MIKE SPREAD EAGLES FIELD
Mark 'Fusspot' O'Connor did everything right to win the round by scoring 39 stableford points on the construction site they call Patterson River Country Club. While Gooey, also needing a good score did just that with a respectable 34. Quinny crashed in a costly bunker on the last to card 32 points and finished equal 5th. All were trying to make ground on the overall Massey leader but alas....  |Full Details|

Has to be Murph who is stabled here and regularly throws his clubs around this monstrosity, sorry monster of a course - an important stat when you consider few, if any of us have been seen around here before.

Also has to be Murph who is stabled here and regularly throws his clubs around this monstrosity..... so I've been told!

Well Murph suggests that we're all history! By the sounds of it, high 20's may be a handy score if you have any balls left.

Michael "Stableford" Hall appears to be holding onto some excellent form from his last few outings and could see his lead extended here.

Given his light handicap and experience on the track you would think Murph would be a shoe in... especially now that he thinks he has us all running scared. But look for the "Carrington Fats" to put in a biggy... he is due!

ROUND FOUR  20 Dec 2003 - GOOEY BOUNCES BACK AS QUINNY LOSES GRIP
Gooey adds to his already impressive record at Flinders with another top ten score after a consistent round of seven pars and only two double bogies to record net 60 off 82 strokes to bring him back into contention and in third place overall. Meanwhile Quinny loses his grip on the lead....  |Full Details|

The Verdict:

Quinny - four wins & three placings from 16 starts at the track and Gooey 3 wins & 5 placings also from 16 have six of the top nine net scores on this classic Massey circuit. Murph 2 wins & 2 placings from 8 starts should also be included in your multiples.

Jimmy still a maiden here after 14 previous attempts and the only starter from the original field yet to salute the judge. But never under estimate the reigning Massey champ.

Only small fields have entered over last couple of seasons. Par here will usually only register six points. Look again for at least half the field scoring better.

With three runs this campaign and treated kindly by the handicapper this may well be Scoot's best opportunity to open his Massey account.

After blowing out to 19 Glenn won easily in a canter here last year. History looks like repeating with a handy 18 handicap this time in. Forget his last start when 12 lengths off pace at Traf.

SCRATCHINGS
A new Massey protocol has been approved to make sure we utilize our fully paid green fees.
In future if you are aware you are a definite scratching from a forth coming gazetted Massey round it is requested that you contact and advise the Massey secretary the Honorable James Griffiths. The warning siren shall sound in the form of a note posted in the Massey Forum calling for a worthy and qualified substitute on a "first in" basis to contact Big Jim accordingly. Green fees paid by the said worthy and qualified substitute can then be forwarded to the aforementioned scratchee as compensation for his pity or credited to his Massey subs.

TASSIE BOUND FOR THE BIG 2-0
Start packing boys! It's seems from all accounts we are Tassie bound for our final weekend to celebrate the 20th Massey (March 2005).
The growing consensus for 2004/2005 is to play only four rounds on the peninsula (inc. Patto) from late October/November 2004 to February 2005 and fly to Tassie early on a Friday morning in March to play Round Five that day at either Tasmania GC or Claremont GC.
Saturday will be a well earned R & R day with most of us looking for a punt at the Hobart races. Then on to the Final round on Sunday were all that additional training, fitness & stamina will no doubt be called upon in a survival of the fittest campaign to the very end! (How many chicken schnitzels can a man handle in a 5 day weekend Glenn?).
Previous "double round" weekends have seen a large proportion of the field in with a "mathematically possible" chance - so the sledging should be on in earnest.
Monday is reserved for the now time honoured "Ambrose Day".
One more nights stay for old times sake and fly home on Tuesday morning for a return to work!!
Sounds GREAT doesn't it?
Costs are still to be determined but if we can score some cheap rounds of golf and accommodation / meals etc. we should be able to keep it within double the usual annual fees.
It is proposed that (subject to further discussion) a deposit of say $200 will be required at Yarrawonga 2003/2004 which will secure air fares and will go a long way towards the overall cost of the year prior to kickoff in Oct/Nov.

If you have any concerns with the timing / work issues now is the time to speak up so programming can be finalised and you are not left behind!!! (Wouldn't it be terrific if we could all play every round and all be in with a shot)

ROUND THREE  16 Nov 2003 - HANDS & HEALS FOR QUINNY AT TRAF
Quinny's new found form continued at Traf with a stunning hands & heals win to make it a running double, and take the twelve points ahead of Michael "stableford" Hall just one point away.
J' Walker victory to team Henry (c), Murph, Gian & Quinny.  |

Johnnie Walker:
Murph - five placings from five starts at the track and won here previous visit when equaling course record of 83 strokes.

Kenny has never run a place here with five lasts from eight starts. Will need significant improvement.

Only two scores returned in last three meetings here have been better than par.  30+ might just be enough for a place.

Beano seems to enjoy stableford conditions with a win here two campaigns back and well weighted this time.

Murph off 14 is well placed coming off 2 shots lighter than previous two gallops.

Very evenly drawn teams but current form suggests Glenn, Jimmy, Mark & Mike will take tossing. Other teams are Kenny, Gooey, Scoot, & Bean. Plus Murph, Quinny, Westy & Gian (who!)

ROUND TWO   12 Oct 2003 - QUINNY COMES THRU AGAINST ALL ODDS AT CARRINGTON
Quinny's amazing comeback from the dead continued at Carrington Park - Rosebud... seven of the eleven starters post positive scores in the "Par" event.

ROUND ONE    28 Sept 2003 - GOOEY BREAKS THRU FOR MAIDEN VICTORY AROUND THE BEND
The season opener at Devil Bend saw Gooey cruise to his maiden win at the course after eleven previous attempts...while the magpies add to an unimpressive (but extremely large) list of runners up!   |Full Details|

2003/2004 SEASON BEGINS ON SUNDAY 28th SEPTEMBER 2003 - DEVIL BEND @ 8.45AM
That's right, the first game of the season is back to the Grand Final weekend. The traditional "kick-off" meeting has been & gone at the Baxter Tavern on Thursday 11th September where only four stragglers made an effort to turn up. Quinny was recovering in Frankston Hospital after giving birth by cesarean section to a bouncing 63mm x 23mm appendix born at approx 10.30pm the previous night. From all accounts Beano has put in a big pre-season shedding up to 25kg and most likely to fill Rocca's spot in the magpies tilt at the big one.

THE BIG  2-0  IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER:
Now let's start thinking about the twentieth Massey boys. -If we want to go somewhere flash we should start saving now and think about making a decision on the final weekend venue. It may be wise to try for the March Labor Day weekend, as it gives us an extra day for travel/fun/golf - or maybe go the whole hog with optional week long tour, final rounds on the weekend....suggestions so far:
Tasmania - Launceston Country Club, Riverside
Tasmania - Royal Hobart, Tasmanian, (Mark West ?)
Coolum
Sanctuary Cove
Twin Waters
Royal Pines
Murray Downs
Merimbula
Yarrawonga
Murray Marathon eg Corowa/Yarrawonga/Cobram/Toc/Echuca
West Coast Walkabout eg Queenscliff/Lonsdale/13th Beach/Anglesea/Lorne
Gippsland tour eg Traf/Sale/Maffra/Bairnsdale/Lakes

If we start putting aside $10 per week from now on the subs for next year expected to be approx. $500 should just about be covered.
