2013-2014 FINAL ROUND - THE DUNES - SUPERCHARGED MOTOR SCOOTER!

With four players left with a mathematical chance of winning the Massey and Scoot now only 1.5 pts behind and a big chance for the double (inc. Match Play!), we headed off to Glenn's home track - The Dunes.

At the half way mark (back nine played first) The scores were:
Fussy 24, Henry 23, Schimma 21, Mike 20, Beardy 18, Murph 16, Gooey 14, Scoot 14, Q 13, Beano 12, Glenn 11, Kenny 9. Obviously, the leaders were feeling the pressure and it was still anybody's to win! The Match Play final saw Murph 2 up at the half.

At the end of play scores revealed that Gooey never got going, producing only another 13 points for a total of 27 (gone!) Q fought back with 20 pts for a total of 33 (still a slight chance?), Glenn also dug deep to bring in another 19 pts for a total of 30 (still alive??). Then as the cards were collated it was revealed that Scoot would motor home with a staggering 29 points to finish well clear with a winning total of 43 stableford to win his maiden Massey title and also claim the double by finishing all over Murph in the Match Play final to salute 3 & 1. Fussy & Schimma were 2nd & 3rd on the day with 41 & 40 pts respectively.

It was now very obvious that the Massey equalisation strategy has been a massive success (Murph was not impressed though - hmm unfortunate collateral damage!) In the last six seasons we have seen three maiden Massey winners and another with his first win in 19 years (including the Triple Crown). There is now only one member who has never won the Massey and his football team has not won a flag in Massey history either - can you guess who he is? Not sure we can rig anything to conjure up a victory anytime soon!

Scoot finished the season with 62.5 points (24 pts this weekend!) and he missed the first round! Glenn did enough to secure his 8th runners up with 57. Q completed the podium with 54 pts in third place.

Scores were:

Scoot 43 (14 out / 29 in), Fussy 41 (24/17), Schimma 40 (21/19), Henry 38 (23/15), Mike 36 (20/16), Q 33 (13/20),
Beardy 31 (18/13, Glenn 30 (11/19), Gooey 27 (14/13), Kenny 20 (9/11), Bean 18 (12/6).

Nearest the Pin winners were: 13th (played as 4th) Q, 17th (8th) Q, 3rd (12th) Murph, 6th (15th) Kenny.

Aggregate Stableford results were: DM/GM/MO/SS 150, PW/SL/IQ/MH 134, AS/KB/MB/RW 109.

The Nancarrow's Cup Final: Scoot d Murph 3 & 2.

Sunday's Ambrose results were: Henry, Scoot, Beardy & Mike net 51 3/8 off 12 5/8. DM/GM/AS/Robbo (filled in for KB) net 54 1/2 off 10 1/2 and RW/SL/MO/IQ net 58 off 10

2013-2014 ROUND SIXSt ANDREWS BEACH - TOOT TOOT, HERE COMES SCOOT!

Probably one of the best selection of courses in a season ever with three of the best in the final weekend. (Well done Glenn!) All were in attendance except for Jimmy the Griff who was unfortunately on special duties in Meetung. Jimmy was replaced by "Wal" Beardmore for the weekend as Robbo apparently had more important golfing commitments.

The stage was set with Glenn some SEVEN (yes seven!!) points clear on top with Gooey second, Scoot a further 3 points adrift in third & Q 4th the only other within 10 points. (all others twenty pts+).

Match play semi finalists were Scoot v Gooey and Murph v Glenn

After 9 holes Glenn was equal 9th with 15 stableford points, Gooey equal 7th with 16, Scoot eq 3rd on 19 and Q 1st with 21. In match play Scoot was 1 up on Gooey & Glenn was 1 up on Murph.

At completion of the round The Scooter came in first with 36 points (19 out & 17 in) with Q (21/14) & Schimma (19/16) equal second/third on 35 points. Glenn & Gooey came home equal 7th with 32 points (15/17 & 16/16). This enabled Scoot to get within 1.5 points of Glenn with Q 5 points  and Gooey 7 points off the pace with a round to go.

Other scores were:

Henry 34 (14/20), Beano 34 (15/19), Fusspot 34 (17/17), Murph 31 (16/15), Beardy 29 (15/14), Kenny29 (13/16) & Mike 27 (17/10).

Aggregate Stableford results were: - PW/MB/RW/AS 132; SS/SL/DM/GM 131; IQ/MO/KB/MH 125.

ROUND FIVELEONGATHA - GOOEY GATHAS GROUND!

Leongatha GC played host in it's maiden Massey round and typically only two players bettered 36 stableford points. The best round of the day was Gooey with a masterful 40 points ((19 out & 21 in) with our regular fill-in Robbo making a difference in second place with a well compiled 38 points (18/20).

This enabled Gooey did make up a critical 2 points on Glenn who once again gathered in a handy 10 Massey points in third place after only scoring a 34 (15/19). In fact, Glenn has only beaten 36 points on one occasion so far this season and that was a 37. His worst finish so far is equal 5th. This tells me that the rest of us has either played shit or not turned up or might as well not turned up - COME ON FELLA's - this is not just a game!!!!

There is now 10 points separating 1st and 4th and forget the bloody rest - how many of you are going to bother even turning up this weekend?

Other scores were:
Henry 33 (15/18), Quinny 33 (15/18), Schimma 31 (15/16), Scoot 30 (15/15), Fussy 29 (14/15), Mike 28 (13/15),
Chris 27 (guest - 14/13) Beano 22 (10/12)  & Jimmy 19 (6/13) .

The Nancarrow's Cup match play results were as follows:

Pool A - Robbo (Murph) d Henry conceded at 8th; Quinny d Chris (Kenny) 3 & 1; Scoot d Beano 3 & 1.
Pool B - Glenn d Fussy 2 & 1; Schimma d Jimmy 4 & 3; Gooey d Mike 4 & 3.

The match play Semi's are:
Scoot v Gooey and Glenn v Murph - good luck guys...

It is worth noting that Murph made the semi's by playing only three rounds (3 wins) and Scoot four (3 1/2 wins)

The final rounds are at St Andrews Beach on Friday 7 March at 2.30pm & The Dunes on Saturday 8 March at 8.48. With Ambrose day at Portsea Sunday 9 March at 11.40am. Staying at Camp David in Cape Schanck.
Groups will need to be drawn at the first tee (or earlier at Murphs) with match play semi finalists traditionally making up one group - maybe 2nd so other groups can find out how they are going.

 ROUND 5 PREVIEW - LEONGATHA - 9.30am SUNDAY 16 FEBRUARY 2014 - STAB

The next round is at Lovely Leongatha on Sunday 16 February from 9.30am playing stableford in what is possibly the last chance for some of us to get back into contention prior to the final weekend. Quite an easy little track if you keep on the fairways - bring lots of balls if you're not and lots of insect repellent for the 150 flies buzzing around your face while your putting - crawling into your eyes, nose, mouth & ears (airoguard doesn't stop them) - adds at least six shots to your round! Ah country golf - you'll just love it!

All welcome back at the Opal Motel after the game (if you have time) for a sausage/burger sizzle (supplied) and some well deserved Massey amber.

The matchplay pairs are as follows:

Group 1                                               Group 2                                     Group 3
Kenny v Quinny  (Pool A)          Henry v Murph (Pool A)          Beano Scoot (Pool A)
Schimma v Jimmy  (Pool B)      Fussy v Glenn (Pool B)           Gooey v Mike  (Pool B)

To make the Matchplay Semi's:-

Pool A:
DM or SS win - they will go thru
SS loses  - will miss out and winner KB v IQ thru
. If KB & IQ are AS then KB goes thru on holes up.
DM loses - can only miss out if SS wins & KB wins by 3+ holes or if IQ wins by 5+ holes

Pool B:
GM & SL are already safe.

ROUND FOURCARRINGTON PARK - KENNY BLITZES FIELD!

Perfect conditions for great golf but not much to show for it apart from a scintillating round from KB who shot a staggering 46 stableford points (25 out & 21 in) to take out The Dewars.
Kenny's handicap is now back under 30 - well done Kenny! While Jimmy's handicap has gone out to thirty???

Gooey also showed some fine touch around the greens with some great "up & down" golf to card a 38 (18 & 20) in second with solid performances from Murph (20 & 17) & Scoot (17 & 19) for 37's.

Our "Glorious Leader" Glenn (18 & 18) tied for fifth with Westy (17 &19) with an even par round of 36 to maintain a handy five point buffer overall from Scoot with three rounds to play. Just 10 points separates sixth from first but seventh is 17.5 pts behind.

The Dewars teams event was won by RW/GM/KB/AS with 42 points (7 points on last two holes!) with DM/SL/MO/IQ on 39 pts (lost ball on the last) & PW/MH/JG/SS last with only 10 pts (lost after 8)

Other scores were:
Jimmy 34 (17/17), Quinny 33 (15/18), Schimma 32 (16/16), Beano 30 (13/17), Fussy 29 (14/15), & Mike 26 (13/13).

The Nancarrow's Cup match play results were as follows:

Pool A - Kenny d Beano 7 & 6; Murph d Quinny 5 & 4; Henry v Scoot AS.
Pool B - Glenn d Schimma 2 up; Gooey d Fussy 5 & 4; Jimmy d Mike 6 & 4.

ROUND THREEROSEBUD CC - SUPER MOTOR SCOOTAR!

Henry was this months absentee and was replaced "last minute" by Robbo.

This round saw a straight Stephen Soutar easily account for the field and winning by 5 points with a super score of 43 stableford points (23 out & 20 in). He is now in outright third place on 23 points after playing only two of the three completed rounds. Coincidently, Henry (Scoot's lift) has missed the last two rounds. Hmmm, one wonders will Scoot be the same player when he gets a lift to the course with Henry back? (food for thought Scoot)

Q came in second with a handy 38 points (20 out & 18 in) to keep one Massey point ahead of Scoot and claim second spot, with Schimma in third on the day a further 4 points adrift (18 out & 16 in). Meanwhile, our glorious leader Glenn submitted an average card of 33 points but still picked up 8.5 Massey points to stay 6 points clear overall and picking up another shot on handicap!

Thanks must go to Robbo who helped make up a full field with just five minutes notice but shouldn't have bothered at all after shooting only 21 points (8 out & 13 in) to once again make no difference at all in last place!!!

Other scores were:
Murph 33 (14/19), Gooey 32 (18/14), Mike 32 (17/15), Fussy 29 (14/15), Kenny 29 (16/13), Bean 28 (10/18), & Jimmy 26 (14/12).

The Nancarrow's Cup match play results were as follows:

Pool A - Quinny d Robbo (Henry) 7 & 6 (Thanks for coming!) Scoot d Kenny 5 & 4; Murph d Bean 4 & 2.
Pool B - Schimma v Mike AS; Glenn d Gooey 3 & 2; Fussy d Jimmy 5 & 4.

The next round will be The Dewars Classic at Rosebud Public (Carrington Park) on Sunday 26 January at 2.30pm. Australia day BBQ from 1.00pm in the car park (before game) with Massey Draught on tap (before & after game) - Standby for groups / teams.....

 ROUND 3 PREVIEW - ROSEBUD COUNTRY CLUB - 2.00pm SUNDAY 24 NOVEMBER 2013 - STAB

The next round is at Rosebud Country Club on Sunday 24 November from 2.00pm playing stableford with a chance for the field to really bunch up before the long break or will Glenn increase his lead?

Hopefully, there will be some time afterwards to consume a drop or two of Massey Ale on tap in the car park for our last sip before Xmas.

The matchplay pairs are as follows:

Group 1                                         Group 2                                        Group 3
Henry v Quinny (Pool A)        Beano v Murph (Pool A)         Kenny Scoot (Pool A)
Schimma v Mike  (Pool B)     Fussy v Jimmy (Pool B)           Gooey v Glenn  (Pool B)

CHART FORM: - No Stats - Only played as Ambrose Day!

ROUND TWODEVIL BEND - WHAT A DIFFERENCE ROBBO MAKES!

Another two players M.I.A today (Henry & Murph) who were replaced in the field by Geoff Edwards & Robbo.

However, another notable absentee at the first tee was one Jimmy The Griff. Who apparently had an all night bender with Kenny. The latter did make it to the first tee on time but may as well not have bothered at all as he only got thru seven holes before retiring on 2 stableford points with a "Not Completed Round". Jimmy, however did show up to play the back nine (16 points). After being late for the designated tee off he should be officially disqualified - however he was awarded the 2 Massey  points ahead of Kenny with 1 Massey Point based on scores achieved - They both should be facing further disciplinary action for bringing The Massey into disrepute!

Robbo finally made an impact with 43 stableford points (23 in / 20 out) to really make a difference and take the 12 points away. Scoot compiled a handy par score of 36 points (17 in / 19 out) in second place, while Glenn (17/15) & Mike (15/17) tied third with 32 points apiece.

Other scores were:
Geoff 31 (15/16), Q 31 (15/16), Gooey 30 (17/13), Fussy 30 (12/18), Schimma 28 (16/12), Bean 24 (15/9), Jimmy 16 ( - /16) & Kenny 2 (after 7 holes).

A fine BBQ was had after the game (thanks Jimmy/Kenny) and in a first for the Massey - Home Brew (Massey Draught) in kegs and on tap was a huge success and will be brought along to every round for after match sippers! Maybe any gold coin contributions can be put into the Massey coffers as a potential fund raiser? - or just turn up & drink! Open for discussion.

The Nancarrow's Cup match play results were as follows:

Pool A - Kenny (Conceded - Did Not Finish) v Robbo (Murph); Geoff (Henry) d Bean 1 up; Scoot d Quinny 3 & 2.
Pool B - Mike v Glenn AS; Gooey d Jimmy by Forfeit (Late); Schimma d Fussy 1up.

The next round will be at Rosebud Country Club on Sunday 24 November at 2.00pm. Quick, cold Massey Draughts on tap after the game - Standby for groups.....

ROUND ONEPATTERSON RIVER CC - GLENN SHINES WHILE SCHIMMA FADES!

Patto River kick started a new season which saw two missing in action (Fussy & Scoot). They were replaced by Robbo & Beardy. With Robbo taking Fusspots spot and Beardy taking Scoots in the respective matchplays.

Glenn had a very consistant & solid round scoring 37 stableford (19 out & 18 in) with Beano a handy 36 points ( 20 & 16). Murph & Kenny tied third on 35 (19/16 & 20 /15 respectively). Meanwhile last years champ, carrying the burden of the 2kg penalty, faded badly with only 26 points (14/12).

Other scores were:
Jimmy 33 (18/15), Henry 32 (18/14), Gooey 31 (18/13), Q 31 (14/17), Beardy 29 (12/17), Mike 28 (11/17), Schimma 26 (14/12) & Mark "The Difference" Robinson 25 (15/10) once again making no difference at all.

The Nancarrow's Cup match play results were as follows:

Pool A - Kenny d Henry 3 & 1, Murph v Beardy (Scoot) 4 & 2; Q d Bean 2up.
