FINAL ROUND REVIEW - NUMBER FIVE IT IS! |
With Murph and Mike absent and a 4.5 point deficit to make up Glenn
needed a miracle to capture his maiden Massey title. Well he didn't let
himself down as he punched his way to a remarkable net 71 under extreme
pressure to claim top points for the round. Schimma shot an equal
course record 84 strokes (72) and Scoot also helped out with a personal
best net 74. Gooey tried hard with a contribution of 76. He only needed
two more players inside Jimmys score..... |Full

ROUND
5 REVIEW - SMOKIN' THE PIPE! |
Another hot day helped produce a pressure cooker atmosphere at 'The
Bend' where up to eight players still had enough of a chance to press
claims for immortality. Four unfortunate late scratchings took it's toll
on those hoping to make a last chance effort for Massey stardom as now
there only remains four with a 'mathematically possible' chance
following the pending scratching of maybe three players for the trip to
Yarrawonga. One of those four is sitting back on the couch smokin' the
pipe after setting up a very substantial 4.5 point lead and that man
knows from previous personal triumphs how nothing is impossible.... just
ask Jimmy himself about that 2 iron from the trees on the 18th on the
Murray course one memorable day!!......... |Full

Lover:
With 3 wins, 3 seconds & a 3rd - Glenn obviously enjoys
this showpiece of the Massey Calender. Not far behind is
Quinny with 8 placings from 12 starts.
Worst on Track:
KB's stats show 4 last place finishes from his 12 start at
the track (but also 3 placings!)
History Suggests:
Recent history indicates that no more than 3 or 4 players
finish better than par - sometimes only one. Two to four
over par could be good enough to pick up some handy points
so hang in there!
The Roughie:
Scoot could pick up his first placing here if he can hold
it together.
The Verdict:
'Gooey can't possibly play as bad as he did last time out
and is well handicapped to take this one out at one of his
least favorite courses.

4 REVIEW - RECORDS ARE MADE TO BE BROKEN! |
Very hot humid conditions
for the Dewars Stableford Classic which was held for the first time at
'The Divot". Well they say records are meant to be broken and during
this round three players got off to a flyer with scores in excess of 20
points on the outward nine but one in particular was setting the world
on fire......... |Full

Track
Lover:
Not enough play here to recognise a true track lover,
apart from the previous win from Murph and
equal 2nds from The Bean & Henry at our only
start at the 'Divot'.
Worst on Track:
Well Kenny did finish last in 2001-2002
History Suggests:
Par score of 36 points to place or better. A score in the low 30's may be good
enough for a top six finish.
The Roughie:
Schimma hasn't been in good form this season but the Divot
could suit his game.
The Verdict:
'Long' Glenn Martin is a last start winner and will be
looking to close the gap on The Bean.
Look for big finishes from Fusspot & Jimmy.
With Henryas the main danger.
The Winning Team:
This years teams are:
1. Schimma, Fusspot, Mike and the Bean
2. Murph, Gooey, Quinny and Scoot (no water to worry about??)
3. Henry, Glenn, Jimmy and Kenny
Team No. 1: Has the current Massey leader and 2nd placer
but will need better efforts from Schimma & Mike - Obvious
favourites.
Team No. 2: Patchy form from all of these, but Scoot
doesn't have to contend with the water on the 12th here! -
Chance.
Team No. 3: Definite threat to the favourites but will
need Kenny to produce some magic. |

3 REVIEW - THE HEAT IS ON! |
With
smoke filling the skies from the bush fires raging in the High Country
and the temperature racing to a top of 43 degrees it became somewhat of
a survival of the fittest at Rosebud Public (Carrington Park). I know
yours truly definitely struggled over the last six holes as the heat
began to take it's toll. However, you wouldn't know it judging by the
scores carded in this Par event where only two players from a field of
ten failed to play to their handicap.......... |Full

2 REVIEW - THE BEAN SAYS CATCH ME IF YOU CAN! |
On
a day when everybody had there chances after the front nine... it was
Andrew 'The Bean' Sawyer who kept it together to post a record breaking
win at Amstel. In fact not only did Bean set a new course record of nett
68 but Fusspot & Gooey also bettered the old mark of 70 set by Henry
just last season..... |Full

ROUND
1 REVIEW - JIMMY CONQUERS THE 'CAPE' |
With
very windy and sometimes squally conditions this was not the best day to
visit the 'Cape' if it was your first venture to a golf course in six
months. But one man came to play and didn't let the conditions beat him.
Jimmy carved out a very respectable stableford score of 36 points after
blazing out of the gates with 19 on the front.... |Full

WELCOME
TO THE 22nd MASSEY OF 2006 / 2007 |
|
It's settled then,
we're back to the Mighty Murray River at Yarrawonga for this years
final round where we will be taking up residence in the suites
opposite the swimming pool. After a meeting held at the Baxter Tavern
it was agreed that we should play at least one 'high cost' peninsula
course per year, no more Saturday arvo games (no more excuses from
Mike), a one shot penalty to the Massey Champion, unrestricted
handicaps and an inclement weather ruling. This is all I can remember
from that evening.. I only hope that Glenn still has that piece of
toilet paper that it was all written on. When he finds it the full
details will be posted.

The schedule for this year has been finalised.... it kicks off at CAPE
SCHANCK at 8.00am on 8 October 2006. Strictly no denim!!!

FINAL
ROUND 2005 / 2006 |
|
This
year saw us return to the Bellarine Peninsula & Surf Coast for the
first time since 1997/98 when we tackled Queenscliffe GC on Swan Island
and Lonsdale GC. However, this time we were playing a couple of beauties in
13th Beach for the final round on the Saturday and Barwon Heads GC on
the Sunday in a new 4 ball-best ball teams format that replaced the
traditional Ambrose event.
The weather was hot & sticky and about 30deg. for the final round at
13th Beach where all players seemed to get off the first tee fairly well
with the exception of the leader Quinny who shanked his barely passed
the ladies tee then proceeded to scramble up the first fairway... |Full
