ROUND SIXYARRAWONGA MURRAY - THE LEAD INCREASES!

For the first time in five years we were back at Yarrawonga but alas without Fusspots (shoulder surgery) and Mike (unavailable). However, they were (in)adequately replaced by Mark Beardmore & Bob Stewart who came along to witness the legend that is The Massey!

All arrived on Friday to tee off on The Lakes course where only three players registered sub par stableford scores. Glenn came in first with 40 points (22 in & 18 out with 87 strokes) with Schimma second 39 points (21/18 and 83 strokes) and Henry in third place with 37 points (20/17 and 79 strokes). This enabled Schimma to increase his lead to 8.5 points with one round to go after Kenny carded 33 points (11/22) in = 5th place behind Beano with a 35 (18 /17).

Other scores were:

Scoot 33 (9/24), Jimmy 32 (18/14), Gooey 31 (11/20), Bob 30 (17/13), Q 28 (15/13), Murph 27 (13/14) & Beardy 25 (16/9).

ROUND FIVEFLINDERS - THE MIGHTY QUINN SALUTES!

Finally, a full field showed for our return to Flinders including a cameo by Fussy who managed to keep track of everyone's progress and supply some beverages via the golf cart shared with Scoot. It was great to see ya on the mend Fussy. However, Scoot may beg to differ when he was regularly left without any clubs to chose from.

Final scores show that even though he picked up a mediocre five Massey points, Schimma still has a handy 5 point lead over Kenny with a further seven points to the third placed Murph after nobody really made a move on the leader going into the penultimate round at Yarrawonga. Although it should be noted that Kenny did pick up 4 points on him to be within real striking distance with two tough rounds to play.

Individual scores were:

Quinny 44 (21 out / 23 in), Michael 43 (21/20), Beano 41 (23/18), Kenny 39 (20/19), Henry 37 (18/19), Murph 36 (23/13)

ROUND FOURCAPE SCHANCK - SCHIMMA HOLDS COURT AGAIN!

On arrival at the Cape for a pleasant afternoons golf we were faced by a panicking Schimma who had us all confused about the setup of the playing groups at the 1st tee. After late scratchings from Jimmy & Mike it seems that Schimma's replacements Slevo & brother-inlaw Paul had already hired a cart together as they have trouble walking the course - but they were meant to be playing in different groups. This was going to stuff up the Matchplay groups which ever way we looked at it. Eventually Murph conceded his match to Kenny so that Kenny could still play with Scoot and share a cart and play with Slevo & Paul. Therefore all other matches were unaffected.

After sending the cart group off first including Slevo, his brother-in-law Paul, & Kenny & Scoot we were all amazed at the slow pace of the cart group, which at some stages resembled something from the Keystone Cops as 45 minutes after teeing off we were all still waiting for them to get on the 2nd green. It seems they had lost their Dewars ball. After they finally left the green the following group found the Dewars ball in front of the green in the middle of the fairway! Go Figure! Fair dinkum they were slow - four groups eventually played through the cart group for the day. As heard for the first time ever, Kenny & Scoot complained at the slow play of their partners.

After all the confusion at the first tee Robbo was unaware he was to be playing match play against Schimma in place of Fussy as agreed. When asked of the result Schimma quickly added the scores to declare hinself a 2 and 1 winner until Robbo cried foul as he was unaware of a match!! The end result after much discussion was a "No Result" not even a forfeit was awarded to Schimma as penalty for all the stuffing around that was caused. Even his advocate from the kangaroo court in Tassie sacked him as a client!!

Anyway, after all this Murph picked up his maiden Dewars Classic win with a fine 40 stableford points (19 out / 21 in), Gooey 2nd with a 39 (21/18) and Scoot third with 37 (21/16). Other scores were:

Schimma 35 (15/20), Quinny 33 (15/18), Henry 32 (16/16), Glenn 32 (15/17), Kenny 31 (15/16) Beano 30 (13/17) and Robbo 26 (13/13) so much for being in the comp. to make a difference Robbo! For the record Slevo got 31 points and Paul 15.

Kenny was adamant that being approached by a panicking Schimma at the start of the day and the slow play of his playing partners seriously affected his golf and could have cost him the Massey!. {Ed. Hmmm, why do Pots, Kettles & Karma Buses spring to mind?}

The Dewars team event was won by Schimma, Robbo, Beano & Gooey with 34 points, 2nd was Westy, Murph, Glenn & Q 15 pts and Kenny, Scoot, Slevo & Paul 7 third.

HANDICAP BEST:        D.Murphy 9.6 (prev. 10.1)

The Nancarrow's Cup match play results were as follows:

Pool A - Kenny d Murph conceded, Schimma v Robbo No Result; Qunny v Glenn AS.
Pool B - Scoot d Jimmy by Forfeit; Gooey d Bean 4 & 3; Henry d Mike by Forfeit.

The next round will be at FLINDERS on Sunday 10 February from 3.30pm. - Standby for groups.....

ROUND THREEDEVIL BEND - HERE COMES KENNY!

Kenny has placed himself nicely at the Xmas break with a masterful win and equal course record at Devil Bend scoring a superb 43 stableford points (21 out & 22 in) but still has some work to do to catch Schimma (16/19) who had another podium finish tied with Gooey (18/17) on 35 points. Schimma has scored 34 Massey points from a possible 36 to be on target to shake Murph's Massey record of 72.5 points in 1999-2000 (also from 7 rounds). Glenn has also consolidated in 3rd place overall with a credible 34 points to come in 4th at the Bend. The rest of the field have to hope for a miracle to catch these three while Fussy has to wait another year after recent shoulder surgery when he was extremely well placed after 2 rounds with two podium finishes to start the season (we wish him all the best).

Other stableford scores were:

Henry 32 (16/16), Murph 31 (18/13), Q 31 (14/17), Bean 30 (20/10), Jimmy 29 (16/13), Mike 24 (9/15) and Scoot 19 (9/10)

Although perhaps a little overstated it was true...the BEAN had done what none of us has ever done before....and he should be congratulated for it. We have seen "The Bean" the Bean Machine!!!
Some summaries of the trip away Metung weekend-
FRIDAY AMBROSE at Lakes Entrance GC:
Team 1 Schimma, Beano, Glenn and Kenny off 12 and 3/8
Team 2 Westy, Jimmy and Scoot off 11 and 3/8
Team 3 Murph, Quinny and Mike off 10 and 1/8
No Gooey or Fusspots...they would make the early morning trek down Saturday leaving Melbourne at 4AM.....what idiots they thought they were...UNTIL THEY WITNESSED HISTORY
Fussy said...."I remember where I was when Elvis died...and I'II remember forever where I was when the Bean took out the triple Crown!!!"
Anyway..back to the Ambrose.
Schimmas group 1 finished with 74 off the stick....ending up with a score of 61 and 5/8.
Got off to a bad start with 4 bogies and only 1 birdie on front nine to turn with a score of 39.
4 more bogies on back nine killed them ,despite 3 birdies along the way, finishing with 35 for total of 74 = SHITFUL and NO CIGAR!!!!
Team 2 Westys group shot 69 ending up with 57 and 5/8.
Scorched on front nine with 3 birdies in 1st 4 holesand turned 4 under.
Solid back nine with mostly pars, 2 bogies and a birdie.
****HIGHLIGHT OF ROUND- last hole...had to get Scoots last drive on card...18th hole over water...and it was Scoot's turn to play 2 balls, which is rather ironic as he often seems to play with his 2 balls.
Anyway, 1st ball off tee...into the lake, scattering birds all over Bairnsdale. Scoots 2nd ball off tee..into the lake...more birds scatter and flee the seemingly unsafe waters. From waters edge point of entry Scoot takes 2 more shots to get over the water, so hes actually there for 3. Fat boy Westy hits his usual boring superb straight up the frikin fairway shot that lands on the green...on for 4. They putt and Scoot drops a huge putt to end this unbelievable adventure with 5 shots!!!Can you believe that****
Meanwhile Murphs team 3 shoot 68 to end up with 57 and 7/8.
Parred all 1st 7 holes.......eagled the 9th where Quinny...preparing for a long putt from off the green gets advice from Murph "Just get it close Q"....only to see it dive into the hole!!!
Another birdie on 10, followed by mostly pars...and Quinny stated that Murph hit the ball magnificently.
***BUT THE IRONY WAS that Quinny had another long putt on the last hole which would have won the match...only to see it lip out...whilst Scoots monster putt dropped to give Scoots team the win by the slenderest of margins!!!
NANCARROWS CUP MATCHPLAY:
SATURDAY SEMI FINALS at Bairnsdale GC
Jimmy played the Bean
Bean lead Jimmy most of the way...both played fairly ordinary golf....Bean was 3 up with 3 to play so Jimmy was stuffed cause even a tie would lose him the match...so The Bean won 3 up with 2 to play.
Kenny played Quinny
Kenny got 3 up early teeing off with massive 3 irons 120 metres down the fairway.
He was still 3 up after 11 holes, then Q won 13, 15 and 17 to make it all square on 18th.
Q teed off in the middle of fairway. Kenny was in fairway as well with an extra shot on the hole. This made Quinny think he had to "muscle one" onto the green...so he attempted to launch hard at his 2nd shot..only to MISS THE BALL, HAVE AN AIRY, and virtually hand the match to Kenny. They both had 6, but Kenny won with the extra shot.
SUNDAY FINAL at Kings Cove Club in Metung - KENNY vs THE BEAN or THE "MAN WHO CREATED HISTORY!!!"
After both had wiped the first two holes - Bean then won the next three. Still 3 up after 9, with not much happening from Kenny. Kenny won the 10th, but not much changed after that until Bean won the 16th to take the chocolates....BEANO won 3 up with 2 to play!!!!
MASSEY OVERALL RESULTS
1st...THE BEAN...having 27 points only on Sat (finishing 2nd last), and having 30 points on Sunday (finishing 6th) was enough for the great man to take the title...finishing the season with 58 points and the trophy.
2nd...Mike Stableford Hall...sensational weekend scores...2nd on Sat with 38 points....1st on Sunday with 37 points......finishing the season after barnstorming home with 55.5 points...only 2.5 behind Beano.
Great effort Mike, perticularly after nearly breaking your toe in the bubble on Sat night.. Thats what true Massey champions do!!!!
3rd...Quinny...30 points on Sat (7th place) to move within 2 points of The Bean, then only 28 points on Sun (7th place again). Could have figured in the finish but didn't do enough...kinda like Richmond in round 1 every year!!!! Finished season with 55 points.
4th...Murph...shot the lights out at Bairnsdale Sat to finish 1st with 40 points (even Murph was stuck for words for a minute) but had a steady but not sensational Sunday with 34 points (3rd place) to finish season with 52.5 points (and missed one round).
5th ...Kenny...still waiting to put something in the trophy cabinet at home...put the cat amongst the pidgeons on Sat with 33 points (4th place) to put pressure on The Bean, only to "Do a Richmond" on Sunday with 20 points in stone motherless last place....and throw away another possible Massey!!!! He finished the season on 47.5 points.
6th...Ray "only half the man he was" Wiseman...with a miserable 29 points on Sat (8th place) and a steady 34 points on Sun(equal 3rd).. to finish season with 45 points. Not enough quality this season from the past Massey champ...
7th..Jimmy...early round form indicated a fired up Jimmy, but late form shitfull...Centenary bad round before trip away, Sat at Bairsdale 25 points (last place), and 24 points on Sunday (10th place). Finished season with 41 points.
Rumour is he was too worried about the wankers in the bubble destroying the place and burning down his Metung Oasis...and he was too tired from cooking up a storm every day for all of us.
Well done on that point Jimmy and THANKS FOR HAVING US!!!!
8th...Gooey...missed 2 rounds thru season so that made it impossible....32 points on Sat (5th place) and a disappointing 23 points on Sunday (2nd last). Seemed to lack "fire in the belly" this season..finishing the year with 36.5 points.
Equal 9th....Fussy...also missed 2 rounds this season...1st time in many years have gone away NOT in contention...and probably just as well as 27 points on Sat (9th place) and another 27 points on Sun (8th place) didn't set the world on fire. Finished season with 35.5 points.
Equal 9th...Westy...played magnificent for a while on Sat until he got the "what's the use" "sooky lah lah attitude" and proceeded to 2 and 3 putt many holes on his way to a dismal 27 points (9th place). Fired up on Sunday with 36 points (2nd place). Finished season with 35.5 points......only has to "TRY" more to play the "WESTY" way.
11th...Glenda...Consistent weekend with 32 points Sat (5th place) and 33 points Sun (5th place) to finish a disappointing season with 33 points....had lots on his mind this year with a house move, pressures at work trying to bury huge wads of money, and coming to grips with the potential demise of the beloved saints - also missed two rounds.
12th...Scoot...having a sensational Sat round with 37 points (3rd place), only to come back to earth with a thud on Sun with 25 points (9th place). finished season on 26.5 points and looking to improve next season!!
SOME FINISHING HIGHLIGHTS....
Michael Hall is still having trouble putting a shoe on after potentially breaking his toe being stupid down in the bubble....
Friday night Murph declared himself a "winner" before starting Bairnsdale.
Friday night Jimmy declared himself a "winner" before starting Bairnsdale.
Murph WON...Jimmy came LAST...........
Jimmy and Quinny looked at Beano and Kenny having a headlock/wrestle on a bed down in the bubble after too much alcohol.....
Doing the headlock they both over balanced and fell off the bed....Q and Jimmy looked at each other and said "we'll smash them tomorrow"""
THEY LOST!!!!
Fussy and Gooey trekking down to Metung Sat morning leaving home at 4am to make the 8am tee off.
Well worth it when you look at their scores over the weekend...but at least they witnessed HISTORY!!!
Scoot purchasing $280 worth of golf clubs at Bairnsdale on Sat..and then to capitalise on this bargain by having one of his best rounds ever with 37 points...and thinking he is back and has conquered the golfing demons...until Sunday when he had 25 ordinary points and became a Massey hacker again....and note...THE CLUBS ARE NOW ON EBAY!!!!
GOOD GOLFING EVERYONE
THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES AND A GREAT 2011-212 SEASON
LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU ALL NEXT SEASON...
