FINAL ROUND REVIEW -  HISTORY IN THE MAKING.

Well....its over again....
Another year of Massey tradition has rolled on by....and the feats of another Massey champion become etched in Massey folklore forever......and what a "humble" champion!!!
"WHERE WERE YOU WHEN THE TRIPLE CROWN WAS WON' he stated.
"People will remember the feats of Black Caviar, Cathy Freeman, Kieron Perkins...and plenty were there to see these great feats. "BUT ONLY 11 PEOPLE IN THE WORLD WERE LUCKY ENOUGH" he said....to witness the BEAN take all before him and do what NO MASSEY MAN has ever done....the TRIPLE CROWN
MASSEY CHAMPION
NANCARROWS CUP CHAMPION
DEWARS CUP CHAMPION.
Although perhaps a little overstated it was true...the BEAN had done what none of us has ever done before....and he should be congratulated for it. We have seen "The Bean" the Bean Machine!!!
Some summaries of the trip away Metung weekend-
FRIDAY AMBROSE at Lakes Entrance GC:
Team 1 Schimma, Beano, Glenn and Kenny off 12 and 3/8
Team 2 Westy, Jimmy and Scoot off 11 and 3/8
Team 3 Murph, Quinny and Mike off 10 and 1/8
No Gooey or Fusspots...they would make the early morning trek down Saturday leaving Melbourne at 4AM.....what idiots they thought they were...UNTIL THEY WITNESSED HISTORY
Fussy said...."I remember where I was when Elvis died...and I'II remember forever where I was when the Bean took out the triple Crown!!!"
Anyway..back to the Ambrose.
Schimmas group 1 finished with 74 off the stick....ending up with a score of 61 and 5/8.
Got off to a bad start with 4 bogies and only 1 birdie on front nine to turn with a score of 39.
4 more bogies on back nine killed them ,despite 3 birdies along the way, finishing with 35 for total of 74 = SHITFUL and NO CIGAR!!!!
Team 2 Westys group shot 69 ending up with 57 and 5/8.
Scorched on front nine with 3 birdies in 1st 4 holesand turned 4 under.
Solid back nine with mostly pars, 2 bogies and a birdie.
****HIGHLIGHT OF ROUND- last hole...had to get Scoots last drive on card...18th hole over water...and it was Scoot's turn to play 2 balls, which is rather ironic as he often seems to play with his 2 balls.
Anyway, 1st ball off tee...into the lake, scattering birds all over Bairnsdale. Scoots 2nd ball off tee..into the lake...more birds scatter and flee the seemingly unsafe waters. From waters edge point of entry Scoot takes 2 more shots to get over the water, so hes actually there for 3. Fat boy Westy hits his usual boring superb straight up the frikin fairway shot that lands on the green...on for 4. They putt and Scoot drops a huge putt to end this unbelievable adventure with 5 shots!!!Can you believe that****
Meanwhile Murphs team 3 shoot 68 to end up with 57 and 7/8.
Parred all 1st 7 holes.......eagled the 9th where Quinny...preparing for a long putt from off the green gets advice from Murph "Just get it close Q"....only to see it dive into the hole!!!
Another birdie on 10, followed by mostly pars...and Quinny stated that Murph hit the ball magnificently.
***BUT THE IRONY WAS that Quinny had another long putt on the last hole which would have won the match...only to see it lip out...whilst Scoots monster putt dropped to give Scoots team the win by the slenderest of margins!!!
NANCARROWS CUP MATCHPLAY:
SATURDAY SEMI FINALS at Bairnsdale GC
Jimmy played the Bean
Bean lead Jimmy most of the way...both played fairly ordinary golf....Bean was 3 up with 3 to play so Jimmy was stuffed cause even a tie would lose him the match...so The Bean won 3 up with 2 to play.
Kenny played Quinny
Kenny got 3 up early teeing off with massive 3 irons 120 metres down the fairway.
He was still 3 up after 11 holes, then Q won 13, 15 and 17 to make it all square on 18th.
Q teed off in the middle of fairway. Kenny was in fairway as well with an extra shot on the hole. This made Quinny think he had to "muscle one" onto the green...so he attempted to launch hard at his 2nd shot..only to MISS THE BALL, HAVE AN AIRY, and virtually hand the match to Kenny. They both had 6, but Kenny won with the extra shot.
SUNDAY FINAL at Kings Cove Club in Metung - KENNY vs THE BEAN or THE "MAN WHO CREATED HISTORY!!!"
After both had wiped the first two holes - Bean then won the next three. Still 3 up after 9, with not much happening from Kenny. Kenny won the 10th, but not much changed after that until Bean won the 16th to take the chocolates....BEANO won 3 up with 2 to play!!!!
MASSEY OVERALL RESULTS
1st...THE BEAN...having 27 points only on Sat (finishing 2nd last), and having 30 points on Sunday (finishing 6th) was enough for the great man to take the title...finishing the season with 58 points and the trophy.
2nd...Mike Stableford Hall...sensational weekend scores...2nd on Sat with 38 points....1st on Sunday with 37 points......finishing the season after barnstorming home with 55.5 points...only 2.5 behind Beano.
Great effort Mike, perticularly after nearly breaking your toe in the bubble on Sat night.. Thats what true Massey champions do!!!!
3rd...Quinny...30 points on Sat (7th place) to move within 2 points of The Bean, then only 28 points on Sun (7th place again). Could have figured in the finish but didn't do enough...kinda like Richmond in round 1 every year!!!! Finished season with 55 points.
4th...Murph...shot the lights out at Bairnsdale Sat to finish 1st with 40 points (even Murph was stuck for words for a minute) but had a steady but not sensational Sunday with 34 points (3rd place) to finish season with 52.5 points (and missed one round).
5th ...Kenny...still waiting to put something in the trophy cabinet at home...put the cat amongst the pidgeons on Sat with 33 points (4th place) to put pressure on The Bean, only to "Do a Richmond" on Sunday with 20 points in stone motherless last place....and throw away another possible Massey!!!! He finished the season on 47.5 points.
6th...Ray "only half the man he was" Wiseman...with a miserable 29 points on Sat (8th place) and a steady 34 points on Sun(equal 3rd).. to finish season with 45 points. Not enough quality this season from the past Massey champ...
7th..Jimmy...early round form indicated a fired up Jimmy, but late form shitfull...Centenary bad round before trip away, Sat at Bairsdale 25 points (last place), and 24 points on Sunday (10th place). Finished season with 41 points.
Rumour is he was too worried about the wankers in the bubble destroying the place and burning down his Metung Oasis...and he was too tired from cooking up a storm every day for all of us.
Well done on that point Jimmy and THANKS FOR HAVING US!!!!
8th...Gooey...missed 2 rounds thru season so that made it impossible....32 points on Sat (5th place) and a disappointing 23 points on Sunday (2nd last). Seemed to lack "fire in the belly" this season..finishing the year with 36.5 points.
Equal 9th....Fussy...also missed 2 rounds this season...1st time in many years have gone away NOT in contention...and probably just as well as 27 points on Sat (9th place) and another 27 points on Sun (8th place) didn't set the world on fire. Finished season with 35.5 points.
Equal 9th...Westy...played magnificent for a while on Sat until he got the "what's the use" "sooky lah lah attitude" and proceeded to 2 and 3 putt many holes on his way to a dismal 27 points (9th place). Fired up on Sunday with 36 points (2nd place). Finished season with 35.5 points......only has to "TRY" more to play the "WESTY" way.
11th...Glenda...Consistent weekend with 32 points Sat (5th place) and 33 points Sun (5th place) to finish a disappointing season with 33 points....had lots on his mind this year with a house move, pressures at work trying to bury huge wads of money, and coming to grips with the potential demise of the beloved saints - also missed two rounds.
12th...Scoot...having a sensational Sat round with 37 points (3rd place), only to come back to earth with a thud on Sun with 25 points (9th place). finished season on 26.5 points and looking to improve next season!!
SOME FINISHING HIGHLIGHTS....
Michael Hall is still having trouble putting a shoe on after potentially breaking his toe being stupid down in the bubble....
Friday night Murph declared himself a "winner" before starting Bairnsdale.
Friday night Jimmy declared himself a "winner" before starting Bairnsdale.
Murph WON...Jimmy came LAST...........
Jimmy and Quinny looked at Beano and Kenny having a headlock/wrestle on a bed down in the bubble after too much alcohol.....
Doing the headlock they both over balanced and fell off the bed....Q and Jimmy looked at each other and said "we'll smash them tomorrow"""
THEY LOST!!!!
Fussy and Gooey trekking down to Metung Sat morning leaving home at 4am to make the 8am tee off.
Well worth it when you look at their scores over the weekend...but at least they witnessed HISTORY!!!
Scoot purchasing $280 worth of golf clubs at Bairnsdale on Sat..and then to capitalise on this bargain by having one of his best rounds ever with 37 points...and thinking he is back and has conquered the golfing demons...until Sunday when he had 25 ordinary points and became a Massey hacker again....and note...THE CLUBS ARE NOW ON EBAY!!!!
GOOD GOLFING EVERYONE
THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES AND A GREAT 2011-212 SEASON
LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU ALL NEXT SEASON...

ROUND FIVE -  CENTENARY PARK - TRIPLE CROWN BECKONS!

The Mighty Bean has increased his chances for a historic & monumental Triple Crown (Dewars,Nancarrows&Massey) with another solid performance at 'The Divot'. Shooting 37 stableford points (3rd place) and winning his matchplay 2 & 1 sees "The Bean Machine" way out on top in both tables with an unprecedented 14 points (& 14 holes up) in the Matchplay (undefeated) and only 1 point off the max. thanks to Henry pulling the pin and waving the white flag at Flinders when he was staying just around the corner in Shoreham. He now faces Jimmy in a Semi Final after Jimmy received a forfeit over Scoot.

"Mighty, Historic, Monumental, Solid, Undefeated, Machine, Unprecedented - there aren't enough superlatives!"

His lead in the Massey has now stretched to 5 points after most of the challengers faltered - Jimmy (last again!) with 30pts & Kenny equal 8th with 34pts are now 10.5 & 10 pts off the pace respectively in 3rd & 4th place. While your's truly is just hanging in there in 2nd place overall. Mike could only manage equal 6th and is now a massive 15 points behind the Bean Machine in 5th position.

Fusspots and IQ enjoyed the day tying the round with 39 points (off 20 & 21) while it is also worth mentioning Gooeys effort of 36 points playing off his lowest ever handicap of 14.1. But it is Beano's 37pts (and 3rd) that has brought about Black Caviar odds going into the final weekend in the Victorian Riviera with a very handy 33 handicap and playing stableford for the first time over the championship rounds.

The other semi final for the Nancarrows Matchplay title is between Kenny & Quinny after Kenny finished top of Pool A after coming from 3 holes down (winning 7 holes in a row) in a head to head battle with Schimma who came back but halved the penultimate hole to see KB go through 2 & 1. Q did enough to get the desired 3 & 2 result defeating Glenn and steal second from Mike (by 1 hole up) who was courageous losing to 'The Bean' 2 & 1 - not dissimilar to Hay List!

So it is off to Jimmy's "Bolt Hole" in Metung for Ambrose Day on Friday 2 March at Lakes Entrance at 12.00pm. We will draw groups (Jacks/Queens/Kings) on arrival. Round 6 and matchplay semi's on Sat 8.00am at Bairnsdale with the matchplay semi finalists in the middle group. Final round and Matchplay Final 9.00am Sun at Metung (Kings Cove) - "Triple Crown Day"!!!!!

Correct me if I'm wrong Jimmy, but wasn't a financial reward for a Triple Crown Winner courtesy of the other Massey members discussed at Metung last year?

ROUND FOUR -  CAPE SCHANCK - HE'S BEAN A MACHINE!

Shooting 38 stableford points and winning his matchplay 4 & 3 sees "The Bean Machine" on top of the Massey (38 points) and the Matchplay tables. Taking out the coveted Dewars Stableford Classic puts him in contention for the Triple Crown, The Grand Slam... The Whole Bloody Lot! Even our much loved guest player Robbo was quoted as saying "I didn't know you were such a great golfer Bean?".

Controversy surrounded the Dewars Team event after Henry, Jimmy & Kenny were awarded the win with 27 points after Schimma, Murph, Robbo & The Bean Machine reckon they scored 40 points after Schimma schancked his first tee shot into private property along side the first fairway and the owner told them "to piss off and play your provisional". And rightly so as trespassing is not allowed in any game of golf - so stiff bloody shit! While Quinny, Mike & Scoot scored 22 points to finish second.

Henry and Murph were the only others behind Beano to match par with 37 & 36 stableford points respectively to register podium finishes. While Quinny & Jimmy continue to struggle with there lower handicaps finishing last with 26 points & 16 points. That's right! Jimmy scored a personal worst ever and course worst ever 16 points for his second consecutive last place finish, but still in second place overall (36 points) thanks to several recent absenteeism's picking up 9 points in the process.

Kenny moves into outright third place (33 points) after scoring a credible 32 points on the day and as with Bean ... is very handily weighted and waiting to pounce. With stableford as the format over the last two rounds this year, it puts them in an ideal position.

Many thanks once again go to Murph for his generous hospitality and a very pleasant Australia Day BBQ and to Jimmy for continually coming up with much appreciated prizes.

ROUND THREE -  FLINDERS - THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN!.

Well..,.what a crock of shit...Round 3 at Windy Flinders 7 Massey starters NO Glenda, Gooey (came Saturday!!!), Murph, Scoot and little FatMan!!!

To quote Kenny...."Theres NOTHING more important than the Massey....whats wrong with these tossers!!!!"
Only could play ONE matchplay...Ray vs Fussy...and what a match, what an epic...it went down to the wire being decided by about the 8 hole...well done Fussy for playing like an angry girl guide...and well done Schimma for putting up with Fussy's lamentable angry behaviour for the afternoon. Ray played his usual consistent game having 31 points after a beautiful "birdie" start at the 1st.

Results as follows -

Kenny 39 points....great approach shots all day, many one putts, and getting to the Flinders pub at 9.30AM with Jimmy "Bubba" Griff helped prepare him for a "winning" mentality.
2nd with 31 points Schimma..as I said consistent, solid, and reliable.
3rd with 28 points Quinny...unbelievable when he had 3 pts after 5 holes, 4 pts after 6 holes, only to "steel" himself like all Massey champions to turn it around and return a good score...included was a par on the great par 5 15th hole, where he missed a "birdie" putt from 5 feet!!!
4th was Michael "pull the anchor in" Stableford Hall...who had it all wrapped up after 7 holes with 18 pts...time to engrave the trophy...but like Kenny 2 years ago....he choked on the chain of the anchor as he wound it in around his throat...and proceeded to finish with 27 pts...."disgraceful"!!! Stewards have lodged protest and asked for blood and urine samples!!!!
Finishing equal 5th...I mean stone motherless last...Jimmy "Bubba turned FLUBBA" Griff, Bean turned "Obscene", and Mr. "Angry" Little Fusspot wanker...all on a pathetic 24 pts....Jimmy looked magnificent at times but couldnt keep his "balls" on the right fairway....Bean wiped 6, 7, 8, and 9, and thought "Im Stuffed physically and mentally...and Fussy had one of those days where he wanted to kill someone..only Murph or Westy werent there so he got even more frustrated!!! Highlight of the day for Fussy was the 3rd shot on the 15th where I threw my club further than I hit the ball...the ball went into a large bush, the club went in the long grass...and Mike and Ray spent 10 mins helping me find a lost ball AND a lost club.... Great day that..enjoyed it NONE!!!!

NOTE DATE CHANGE FOR ROUND 4

ROUND TWO REVIEW -  CARRINGTON PARK - JIMMY'S BACK TO BACK!.

What the hell is going on with the Massey!!!
Handicaps are plunging.....only 3 people over a "25" handicap now...unbelievable yes.... and maybe...just maybe...those 3 "spastics "(as Murph would call them)...need to take a good hard look at themselves as they are all over 30!!!!

..Jimmy is now doing "Bubba"Watson impersonations smashing the ball out of sight and "smashing his handicap!!!!Fair dinkum....I played with "Bubba" at Carrington...and the course wasn't long enough for him....what a
brute...what a stud....what a wanker for making his handicap "terminally ill"....from 28.4 ( a cheaters handicap)....down to 22.4 (a more fairer number) then down again to 17.9 (a number to make your arse bleed and almost make the "Sfinkter wont to close up)......24 points the MAX from only 2 rounds...out in front and already crowing and declaring the trophy his
AGAIN....come on fellow Massey morons...we HAVE to put a stop to this tossnob!!!!

Also in my group Quinny and Beano..with the big Bean limping around the course in characteristic fashion, not saying much whilst he stuck knives into the back of Quinny hole after hole as the poor old "Q' kept thinking...."what the fuck do I have to do to win a hole".....I know how you feel mate.....remember...I played "Bubba" Griffiths!!!!! Well done though "Q' pulling the anchor towards the end of your round and "preserving the handicap"!!!!

And lets not forget the 86 and 87 OFF THE STICK "Bubba" and "Q" had at Mt Martha...or should it be called Mt Lame!!!!

And speaking of Lame...or LAMEY...what about "The GOOster"....81 off the beater at Carrington...43 points....unbelievable...and another bastardisation of a handicap falling from 17.6 to 14.1.
Bend over and cop that sunshine!!! Enjoy the rest of the season off that handicap.

Great to see Ray play more than 1 shot to earn some points...and then to get 38 and still only finish equal 7th!!!!!
How easy is this golf getting....Jimmy 45 points...Gooey 43...Bean and Fussy 42....Kenny 42.....we need to get back to Bairnsdale and Lakes...play stroke again and have everyones handicaps "severely dealt with"...don't get me started on playing STROKE on the last 2 rounds at the hardest courses we play ALL YEAR...what a great idea..who thought of that one WESTY!!!!!!! I feel sorry for poor old Westy...the only one in the group it appears playing off a REAL handicap...just ask HIM!!!

Roll on round 3 this Sunday at Flinders...and in the interests of good social golfing...lets see others in the Massey morons group stand up and take the spotlight.and highlights..and lets see those currently basking in the sun get their arses kicked and be sent home like the mighty pies were Grand Final day!!!!! Does anyone remember who won??? and what happened to
the THREEpeat?????

Good golfing to all

ROUND ONE REVIEW -  MOUNT MARTHA - JIMMY SETS THE PACE.

Nice, warm benign conditions greeted us for our first Massey round ever at Royal Mount Martha. With a late scratching from Fussy and a "scratched at the barrier" from Schimma when he teed off to secure a point with a buggered finger sustained from a previous round of golf.

Jimmy set the pace early with 24 points on the front nine and consistently racked up points with another 24 on the back for a PB of 48 points (86 off the beater) to take out the round with a fast finishing Quinny (18 & 29 points on the back with would you believe  - 38 off the stick?) also posting a PB with 47 points in what turned out to be a Bonecrusher / Our Waverley Star style finish. However, they have done some severe damage to their handicaps which will surely have an affect on their chances later in the season. Only two others beat par with Beano in third (40 points) and Murph (39 points) fourth. Surprisingly, no other scores were worthy of a mention as the rest were pretty ordinary with no excuses whatsoever.

FINAL ROUND 2010/11 REVIEW -  LAKES ENTRANCE - MIKE "ROLLS" OUT A WINNER.

Very windy conditions were going to make a tough course an even tougher test as most players could not put the ball on the fairway off the first tee at Lakes Entrance GC.

However, inevitably it was our three leaders who finished in the top four placings. Fussy finished in fourth to bring in another 9 points with a breezy net 81, the little fat round maestro Henry finished on the podium with a net 75 but it was Mike who completed a magnificent double by scoring another net 73 for the weekend (tied with Glenn) to take the Massey honours and his first title since becoming a brother in 1991/92 (the rest of the scores really aren't worth mentioning). Fussy remained 7 points adrift as runner up with Glenn in third - nine points from the winning score.

Celebrations commenced back at the bolthole as correct weight was announced with another sumptuous Jimmy the Griff BBQ followed by a walk to the Yacht club for more refreshments then on to the Metung Pub to complete the evening.

It has been noticed that the two leaders looked after themselves a little too well in unMasseylike
conduct. But I thought Mike's effort to roll out of the pub on Saturday night was well worth remembering - albeit after the pressure was off!

The Matchplay Final was won in a landslide victory by Glenn (also his first):

Glenn d Fussy 6 & 5.

The Ambrose day was conducted on the inspiring Kings Cove Club 9 hole layout in Metung:

Schimma/Murph/Fussy           net 59 1/6    73 strokes
Coops/Beano/Jimmy              net 59 2/3  75 strokes
Henry/Glenn/Quinny/Kenny   net 61       71 strokes

In 2011/2012 it's back to Metung to do it all again!

ROUND SIX  2010/11 REVIEW -   BAIRNSDALE - MIKE SETS UP HANDY LEAD.

All arrived at the Bairnsdale GC for a 12.30pm tee off including our guest 'Coops' on loan from that busy Beaver schedule of one weekend per year. Not hard to understand why they are queuing up to join this amazing institution that is "The Massey".

Only one point separates our two Massey maidens (Mike & Fussy) with Glenn a further 6 points back. At the end of the penultimate round it was Schimma who faired the best with a PB net 65 (79 strokes) followed in by Murph (72) and very steady net 73 from cool hand Mike. Fussy tried gallantly but in the end struggled a tad to come home in 6th place with a net 78 for only 6.5 points.

Then it was off to Jimmy's "Bolthole" in beautiful Metung to see that correct weight gives Mike a handy 4.5 point lead over Fusspot with Glenn back in third place a further 4.5 points behind. A relaxing evening was had and another all-night bender by Kenny & Quinny down in "The Bubble".

And so it was off to Lakes Entrance for the final instalment of 2010/11.
