FINAL ROUND REVIEW -  LAKES ENTRANCE - MIKE "ROLLS" OUT A WINNER.

Very windy conditions were going to make a tough course an even tougher test as most players could not put the ball on the fairway off the first tee at Lakes Entrance GC.

However, inevitably it was our three leaders who finished in the top four placings. Fussy finished in fourth to bring in another 9 points with a breezy net 81, the little fat round maestro Henry finished on the podium with a net 75 but it was Mike who completed a magnificent double by scoring another net 73 for the weekend (tied with Glenn) to take the Massey honours and his first title since becoming a brother in 1991/92 (the rest of the scores really aren't worth mentioning). Fussy remained 7 points adrift as runner up with Glenn in third - nine points from the winning score.

Celebrations commenced back at the bolthole as correct weight was announced with another sumptuous Jimmy the Griff BBQ followed by a walk to the Yacht club for more refreshments then on to the Metung Pub to complete the evening.

It has been noticed that the two leaders looked after themselves a little too well in unMasseylike
conduct. But I thought Mike's effort to roll out of the pub on Saturday night was well worth remembering - albeit after the pressure was off!

The Matchplay Final was won in a landslide victory by Glenn (also his first):

Glenn d Fussy 6 & 5.

The Ambrose day was conducted on the inspiring Kings Cove Club 9 hole layout in Metung:

Schimma/Murph/Fussy           net 59 1/6    73 strokes
Coops/Beano/Jimmy              net 59 2/3  75 strokes
Henry/Glenn/Quinny/Kenny   net 61       71 strokes

In 2011/2012 it's back to Metung to do it all again!

ROUND SIX  REVIEW -   BAIRNSDALE - MIKE SETS UP HANDY LEAD.

All arrived at the Bairnsdale GC for a 12.30pm tee off including our guest 'Coops' on loan from that busy Beaver schedule of one weekend per year. Not hard to understand why they are queuing up to join this amazing institution that is "The Massey".

Only one point separates our two Massey maidens (Mike & Fussy) with Glenn a further 6 points back. At the end of the penultimate round it was Schimma who faired the best with a PB net 65 (79 strokes) followed in by Murph (72) and very steady net 73 from cool hand Mike. Fussy tried gallantly but in the end struggled a tad to come home in 6th place with a net 78 for only 6.5 points.

Then it was off to Jimmy's "Bolthole" in beautiful Metung to see that correct weight gives Mike a handy 4.5 point lead over Fusspot with Glenn back in third place a further 4.5 points behind. A relaxing evening was had and another all-night bender by Kenny & Quinny down in "The Bubble".

And so it was off to Lakes Entrance for the final instalment of 2010/11.

ROUND  FIVE  REVIEW -   MIKE & FUSSY CLEAR OUT AT THE DIVOT.

Only one point separates our two Massey maidens after Mike scored an impressive 42 stab points to win the round and Fussy 37 to finish equal 3rd. But there can only be one winner with two rounds to go on the final weekend at Lakes Entrance & Bairnsdale. They are now holding out the next best Glenn (36 stab) by a further six points in overall third place. Kenny (28 stab) and Bean (31 stab) make up the top 5. There are only 3 Masseys between all of them so the AFL draft seams to be working. Murph compiled a tidy 39 points to claim 2nd on the day with Henry equal third with Fussy (37) after shooting a course record 75 strokes.

Meanwhile, the Matchplay semi finals will be between Kenny & Fussy and Beano & Glenn.

We now get ready to move onto the Victorian Riviera at the residence of Jimmy the Griff following the customary pre-sips at the Baxter Tavern on the Thursday night.

ROUND  FOUR  REVIEW -   PB FOR Q AT THE SCHANCK.

A personal best 43 stableford points for Quinny saw him take the desperately needed 12 points at the Dewars Classic with daylight second - trimming his handicap by 4 strokes (ouch!). Michael Hall salvaged a respectable below par 34 points to put another 11 points in the bank and bring him even closer to Fussy at the top of the table and still holding a very handy 29 handicap in his tilt for a maiden championship. The Bean made up some lost ground on the leaders with a well earned equal 3rd with KB. The latter now in overall 3rd place just 3 points of the pace. The Massey leader was lucky enough to receive a handy 8 points after scoring only 31 stableford and picking up a shot in the process... could it be Fussy's year? While Glenn is still thereabouts with 6.5 points from his round of 30 stableford. Henry scored an equal worst personal performance with only 22 points to bring up the rear on the day and an outright worst performance on the night at Camp David to bring up everything!

There are now only 6.5 points separating the top seven, 9.5 to eighth and 13.5 to tenth with three Massey rounds still remaining.

The winning Dewars Classic combination was Gooey, Mike & Kenny who brought their Dewars ball home with 39 stableford points which was 5 more than their best individual score. While Henry, Murph, Jimmy & Bean collected 29 points with Schimma, Glenn, Fussy & Quinny a further 4 points in arrears after losing their ball at the notorious 15th.

Meanwhile, the Nancarrows duo of Kenny & Beano are holding outright leads in their respective matchplay pools and have already booked another semi final appearance with one round to go.

Many thanks once again must go to Murph for jeopardising the ambience of Camp David and Jimmy the Griff for the much appreciated Dewars prizes

ROUND  THREE   REVIEW -   GOOEY RIGHT AT HOME AT FLINDERS.

In an impressive display of up & down golf Gooey shot his best ever Massey round with a stableford score of 44 points from 80 strokes to record his 5th win and 10th podium finish from 20 starts at the track. However, he as also created a new record low handicap of 15.1 in the process. The 12 points have catapulted him to within 5.5 points of the overall leader Fussy who carded a disappointing 29 points from his also "very toight like a tiger" recent handicap. Schimma was the only other player to break par with a solid 38 points while Mike improved his overall position with 36 points - 11 on three of the last four holes. Kenny 35, Glenn 34 and Jimmy 32 points kept there hopes alive by hanging in there with Quinny, Henry, Fussy and The Bean bringing home the minimum points. There are now only 8 points separating the top 8 and 13 points to Schimma in 10th place with four rounds still to go!

ROUND  TWO   REVIEW -   RECORDS BROKEN AS FUSSY TAKES HOLD.

Records are meant to broken and they were. Both Fussy & Kenny broke the Massey stableford points record of 46 points with Kenny the new holder with 48pts and with it a valuable 12 Massey points. While Fussy consolidated his breakaway lead with another 11 pts from a PB of 84 strokes (net 57 in the old!) and Jimmy the Griff is making another charge on a Massey title in third place (second overall). Meanwhile, the Massey stroke record was lowered from 74 to 71 by Henry the Great. He did it easy folks but lowers his handicap to an all time Massey low of 2.7. Fussy and Kenny didn't exactly do themselves any favours either by lowering theirs by 5.5 - 6 shots. Glenn was at the other end of the scale this time with only 34 stab to bring home the minimum 4pts for the day and stay in contention in =3rd place overall (with Beano) whilst picking up a shot on his handicap. It's back to Flinders for the next game - another low scoring venue!

ROUND  ONE   REVIEW -   FUSSY & GLENN IN POLE POSITION.

A new Massey course opens the new season with all players available on this warm to hot Friday afternoon at Kingswood GC in Dingley. A special thank you to Jimmy the Griff for setting up this day. Once again Fusspots opens the season with a bang when he tied for first place with Glenn on 38 points to share the early lead by finishing 5 points clear of Murph, Jimmy and Michael who shared third place on 33 points with Bean a respectable 6th on 32 points. The rest of the field couldn't manage 30 points and pick up an extra stroke on their handicaps with Kenny bringing up the rear on 26 points. Could this be Fussy's year after being right in contention on the Gold Coast last season where he could not make up ground on Henry when it counted? It's still early days yet with lots of golf to come before we meet in the Victorian Riviera at Meetung.
