"COULD 'A' BEEN
CHAMPION"
In what could be
described as he's best season of golf Ian Quinton saw his handicap reduced
to 21.0 after rounds of net 62 (94 strokes) at The Dunes and 59 (87) at
Eagle Ridge in a desperate bid to keep up with the more consistent
"par" golf of Paul "The Pro" West.
A fighting net 73 at
Portsea off 21 helped keep him only one point off the pace going into the
final "epic" round at Lakes Entrance.
The Friday night scene
was set at the Kalimna Hotel/Motel where the Massey brethren gathered in
an effort to get Henry pissed and see if he could actually win The Massey the honorable way.... with a hang over! The plan was coming
together as suddenly shandy's mysteriously tasted like VB and half
scotches like doubles and some even triples!
This was Quinny's
big chance to shake the monkey off his back but the big
weight proved too much as he finished four
shots shy of potential stardom.
THE MAKING OF A TRUE
CHAMPION
Although suffering
from a local virus he probably picked up the previous night, Henry was
still good enough to finish the round in second place with a net 76. At last
he was
finally recognised as a true Champion... in the tradition of passed (or
pissed) Massey heroes
before him and in doing so also becomes the only triple winner ahead of
Gooey, Jimmy and Murph.
