BACK TO BACK
In the second
consecutive 18 hole play-off David Murphy came out on top from an
unpunctual Michael Hall for his second consecutive Massey to become the
first ever "back to back" champion.
After extending his
lead to a massive 9.5 points in the first four rounds including a net 60
(81 strokes) at Carrington Park, Michael was eventually worn down by the
more consistent "Murph" after seeing his handicap plummet from
27.0 to 15.0.
Murph needed to
pick up 5.0 points on Mike in the final round, which this year was played
at Corowa in sweltering conditions. However, he was not expecting any miracles when he posted a
score only good enough to beat six home. But
Michael could only manage equal 10th and it was back to Yarrawonga for the
play off on Sunday.
ANTI-CLIMAX
Our
two gladiators made it to the first tee in totally different condition...
one had a relatively quiet and early night while the other avoided a
forfeit by just making it to the tee in time. The Massey was virtually
lost before the contest began. You know what they say Mike... "you
never make up for the one you missed out on" or even more
appropriate... "You don't win the Massey - others throw it
away"!
