THE YEAR OF THE BEAN
In only his third
Massey season Andrew "Beano" Sawyer clinches the title in a massive
boil over from a tiring Jimmy who got off to a flyer with two from two. After
three rounds Bean was a staggering 16.5 points off the pace but then unleashed
back to back wins at Devil Bend and Carrington Park which included a sizzling
net 56.
With two rounds to be
played at Yarrawonga "The Bean" had stripped the lead back to 4.0
points but in doing so - damaged his handicap and perhaps his chances. After
the Saturday round on the Murray course the lead was whittled to 2.5 points as our two leaders
finished 3 & equal 4th.
The punters money was clearly with Jimmy to rattle
home with an unprecedented third Massey title. The pressure proved too much
however as
Jimmy crashed on the Lakes with a net 84 (105) and a new champion emerged with
a sound round of net 70. Go Bean!
STABLEFORD & GRISLY
GARFIELD
This year saw the
brief introduction of a stableford round as the tour was forced to play the
"comp of the day" at Amstel in round one. Even briefer was our
sojourn to a soggy Garfield Golf Course. Which many believe would also be our
last. But hey! It was a very wet week boys!
